The health sector is one of the most important industries that has a significant impact on a country’s economy. Students who choose the medical field as a career option are more likely to rely on degrees such as MBBS, BAMS, or BDS. However, paramedical courses are considered as a career option only when seats are not available for such courses. Apart from doctors, paramedics, who serve as the backbone of any medical profession, are in high demand. Paramedics, sometimes known as “allied health forces,” aid doctors, deal with emergency situations, and perform other technical responsibilities. Paramedics, which include professionals like nurses, pharmacologists, therapists, and physicians are the allied health forces that assist a doctor right from taking blood samples to suturing wounds to running lab tests. With a vast curriculum and job opportunities, you can specialize in any of the subjects available. Here we mentioned some paramedical courses for after-12th science students.

BSc Nursing
There are various degrees one can opt for in the healthcare sector apart from MBBS or BDS. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) is one such professional course that makes candidates ready to serve humanity through medical treatment. After completing class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as required subjects, students can pursue a B.Sc Nursing degree. B.Sc Nursing also available for holders of a General Nursing and Midwifery (G.N.M.) degree. Moreover, B.Sc Nursing Graduates have a huge scope in India and abroad as it’s an evergreen field where more nurses are required to assist the doctors to treat patients with care.

BSc Cardiac Technology
The human heart is the most important organ thus we have an intense branch of medicine dedicated to it and these specialists are called Cardiologists. But cardiologists are not the only component of this vast field. There are others who play a significant role in this field and one amongst them are Cardiac Technologists who assist the physicians in everything starting from diagnosis to treatment. B.Sc Cardiac Technology is a three to four-year undergraduate degree program is a field of study in allied courses in medicine. The course involves both theory and practicals. Throughout the course, students will learn about technical aspects of the cardiovascular system and emergency invasive procedures. The degree includes the study of human anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, blood banking, haematology, and cardiac care technology, amongst others. To pursue B.Sc in Cardiac Technology, students must have 10+2 in the Science field with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as the main subjects. 

BSc Anaesthesia
Almost inseparable from surgeries and operations, anaesthesiologists form an integral part of a team of medical professionals. B.Sc. Anaesthesia Technology is an area of science concerned with the study of assisting and managing the work of anaesthesia professionals. It is a three year full-time undergraduate program. BSc Anaesthesia serves as a specialist route toward a rewarding career in anaesthesiology and is generally opted for by those who want to pursue a specialized field of Surgery. B. Sc. anaesthetic Technology involves learning about anaesthesia equipment, anaesthesia drugs, procedures, and dosage so that the patient can be better monitored. 

BSc in Neurophysiology Technology
Neurophysiology is a specialised branch of medical science which deals with the relationship between the brain and the peripheral nervous system. The science of neurophysiology is related closely to neurology which is a specialist area of study relevant to the human brain and its functioning. 
B.Sc. Neurophysiology Technology is an undergraduate Physiology course. The course will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to work as a professional healthcare scientist. It is a three-year degree course. Neurophysiologist monitors the disorders of the brain and the nervous system such as strokes, epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, etc. It is a challenging and rewarding medical speciality that brings the health care practitioner in direct contact with the patients.

BSc in Audiology and Speech Therapy
A Bachelor in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP) is a 4-year, undergraduate-level course. It is an emerging course for students interested in medical and audiology fields. It encompasses the theoretical and practical components of Audiology, Language Pathology, and Speech Pathology. The main aim of the course is to generate skilled and efficient manpower to work effectively with persons having communication disorders.  The course is highly advisable to individuals who have a passion to work among the differently abled people in the society and to make a change in their lives. The BASLP course trains students to become audiologists and speech-language pathologists. They learn methods to treat, identify, and prevent hearing disorders in people. The students are also taught about hearing aids and technology.

BSc in Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy is one prominent type of therapeutic method that is utilized to help individuals tackle their physical, sensory, or cognitive issues. B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy is a 3-year undergraduate course. It deals with improving the life and condition of handicapped and limited people through different modes of treatments. It can be said that this course is similar to rehabilitation of patient. It is basically an allied health profession practiced by occupational therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants. They help people with mental disabilities,
impairments or injuries. Occupational Therapists are hired in schools for students with behavioural problems or learning disabilities. Some practitioners work with accident victims to help them regain skills or to provide assistance to senior citizens to deal with age-related problems.

BSc in Radiology
Radiology is the science of diagnosing and treating diseases with the help of image techniques such as x-rays, ultrasounds, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography, positron emission tomography, etc. B.Sc Radiology is a three-year degree course. Radiology involves scanning, taking pictures of the body to diagnose various diseases. The course programme is designed to teach students the different methods of radiographic imaging and extract useful information about a patient. Candidates wishing to pursue a B.Sc. degree in the field of radiology should have cleared Class 12 in the science stream. 

BSC Optometry
Optometrists and optometrists are medical practitioners who specialize in vision problems. Optometry is a discipline of medicine that focuses on the treatment of eye problems as well as the creation of vision-improving devices (such as lenses and spectacles). Optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners whose responsibilities include refraction and dispensing, assisting in detection and management of eye conditions, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system. BSc Optometry is a full-time undergraduate program. It is a four-year degree program. BSc Optometry course opens a wide variety of career opportunities to the graduates. They can work in a variety of settings such as primary healthcare,
corporate, public sector or even move into research and academics.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy
One of the ancient Health Sciences, Physiotherapy aims to treat injuries and diseases using specialized physical practices and techniques. Physiotherapy has its origins in the massage, hydrotherapy, and manual therapy techniques utilized during the time of Hippocrates. BPT is an undergraduate programme in which students learn to deal with the physical movement of the body aiming to cure disorders of the candidates.  During the four-year course, a candidate develops an understanding of the human body on the basis of medical science. Whereas during the training period of six months, candidates will gain practical knowledge. After completing Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy, students will have many career opportunities. Physiotherapy has achieved a professional status and physiotherapists are required everywhere. It is one of the greatest fields to work in if you are passionate about assisting people in their distress. The paramedical industry works hand-in-hand with the healthcare industry. Several Indian companies have been leading in this field and many skilled and qualified professionals are working in this industry. During a pandemic, the value of paramedics becomes even more, as medicine is one of the most important factors in getting out of the maze. The field is high-paced and challenging but it is equally rewarding as the industry. There are ample job opportunities for paramedical graduates and increasing demand for trained people in these fields, and there are a number of medical colleges and universities that offer paramedical courses.
