DBS IS STILL BEING STUDIED AS A MODEL FOR DIGITAL CHANGE
Harvard Business School (HBS) is the most recent academic institution to document the bank’s progress toward digital transformation in a case study, demonstrating how DBS is still used as a transformation role model.
The DBS case is being taught by Professor Ranjay Gulati, Paul R. Lawrence MBA Class of 1942 Professor of Business Administration, in the HBS Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme and related executive education courses. According to ISI-Incite, Gulati is among the top 10 economists and business researchers in terms of number of citations over the past ten years. Additionally, he is the author of six best-selling books on leadership, organisational performance, and strategy.
Gulati remarked, “Businesses must change in order to compete in today’s marketplaces, which are undergoing rapid change. I was curious to learn what DBS did and how they carried it out in order to examine how successfully they transformed themselves. The digital and purpose-focused aspects of the transformation, and how these permeated every level of the organisation, stood out strongly in my talks with the bank’s leaders. An organisation with 33,000 employees accomplished an impressive feat by strengthening its innovation “muscles” through the leadership’s commitment to resource the change.”
DBS received the title of “World’s Best Bank” in 2022 from the US-based financial magazine Global Finance. As a result, it now ranks as the seventh best bank in the world during the previous five years. DBS was the only business with its headquarters in Singapore to be named as one of Fast Company’s list of the Top 100 Best Workplaces for Innovators. INSEAD, the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), IESE, Singapore Management University, and Nanyang Technological University are a few more organisations that have authored case studies on DBS.
