DPEd is a two-year diploma program. The courses are usually available as a full-time program, though some universities do offer part-time/distance classes for students. BPEd (Bachelor of Physical Education) courses are also available where the curriculum includes physical activities related to body fitness, health, and physical fitness of the body. 

If you are a person who is interested in sports then you can opt for BPEd courses for further studies, right after high school. Diploma courses are also available within these courses.

Eligibility criteria for Diploma in Physical Education

Here is the admission eligibility and route information for students who want to study Diploma in Physical Education.

Students must have 50% marks in the 10th and +2 levels to qualify for the program.

-If the student is interested in sports or has participated in sports events at school and won awards, it is an added advantage. A certification from the school’s sports department for the same is required.

-There is no age limit for admission to BPEd courses.

How to Apply for Physical Education Programme 

The diploma in Physical Education program is available online via the college website or in person at the admissions office. In addition, practical interviews are conducted by faculty members in that field prior to admission to determine whether students have appropriate aptitude for physical activities and sports. This is a performance-based course and more preference is given to candidates who have been active members of the school’s sports curriculum.

The course is intended for students interested in a career in teaching Physical Education and Sports.  Depending on the nature and extent of the course, candidates can pursue jobs in a range of disciplines, including becoming a coach, gym trainer, fitness in-charge and much more

  • Physical Education Teacher

A Physical Education (PE) teacher instructs students about sports, physical development, health, and proper nutrition.  A PE instructor is expected to be knowledgeable in both sports and the health sciences. Physical education teachers educate their students not only on how to play different sports but also on the advantages of exercise with focus on building their bodies for specific sports and also general health. They also plan activities that help make exercise-based learning more engaging for students.

  • Fitness Trainer / GymTrainer

This diploma course will equip learners to assist trainees of all ages, metabolism, and sizes to get healthier and achieve desired fitness levels through focused exercises and activities. A fitness trainer, who is also known as a gym trainer, gym coach, or fitness coach, is involved in the physical training of others through various fitness activities.

This course covers skills of identifying and report all emergencies/ accidents/ safety breaches, inspecting activity area and equipment to ensure it is in safe/ working condition. It also equips learners with knowledge in maintaining health and safety protocol during all activities and preparing and explaining training plans to trainees.

  • Adapted Physical Education

Adapted Physical Education is a course designed to enhance your skills as a licensed physical education teacher or student in a Master of Education program. This course introduces you to the characteristics of individuals with disabilities, issues of developmental disabilities, and positive behavioural support.

Field experiences is integrated through class discussions, readings, and assignments, and focuses on assessing, planning, and implementing physical education and activity programming for students with disabilities.

  • Movement Education

The aim of movement education is to improve health and physical performance. Movement education aids development of motor skills through physical movement. The main purpose being to increase body-mind activities through dance and games and to make physical activity fun and creative. As part of physical therapy, the patient/student can gain a deeper understanding of their body’s movement and an increased efficiency of movement in their daily activities.

  • PG Diploma in Sports Management

Students who pursue a degree in Sports Management learn the techniques and theories of management, finance, marketing, and legislation that pertain to the sports sector. You can analyze the business side of a sports organization utilizing the most recent trends and technologies if you have a degree in sports management.   • Athletic Administrator

The key responsibilities of an  Athletics Administrator are, overseeing the day-to-day operations of their school’s athletic department, event management, project, or function such as facilities management, compliance,  team operations, athletic student services, ticketing, public relations, and project management. They work closely with coaches, athletes, parents, and other stakeholders to make sure that all programs and activities go off without a hitch.

All these are 6 months, 1-year, and 3-year programs that can be chosen based on one’s interest and how much of time can be invested by a student for coursework.
