Former head of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering at IT-BHU (now IIT BHU), Dr Ramesh Chandra Gupta has donated a sum of Rs 5 lakh to Banaras Hindu University. The university will soon institute a scholarship for meritorious students of first year MBBS, belonging to the economically weaker background.

As a part of the scholarship, the selected student will receive Rs 25,000. The donation has been made under the recently launched Pratidana scheme.

Recently, the university received a donation of Rs 10 lakh to institute two scholarships for MA Hindi students on merit-cum-means basis. The scholarships were to be named after Late Pt Ganga Ratan Pandey and his wife Jagrani Pandey. The donation was given by their sons Prakash Pandey and Arun Pandey to pay homage to their parents.

The Pratidana scheme is aimed at making more resources available for students, strengthening research facilities and improving the teaching-learning ecosystem in the university.
