Government to open research parks at 8 IITs and IISc Bangalore

In order to advance science and technology and strengthen the research ecosystem, the Government of India approved the creation of research parks at 8 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and IISc Bangalore. The research parks will also be built at IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Gandhinagar in addition to IISc Bangalore. 

The ministry said that the research parks at IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Delhi are operational, and others are nearing completion. “The main goals of these Research Parks are to have research collaborations with highly regarded industries, to enable student entrepreneurship and incubation and build strong academic links for the same, to increase outreach of academic content to industry and to enable industry to add value to academic programs through close collaborations, etc. According to the PIB announcement, Research Parks are typically formed at higher education institutions across the nation to accomplish their diverse goals.
