According to UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar on Tuesday, higher education institutions that provide accommodations for people with disabilities will be given more consideration during the accreditation process. In addition, thirteen regulatory bodies from various educational fields have decided to advise Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to apply for recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and form a monitoring committee to handle matters concerning private and deemed-to-be universities.

The decision to review the timely and efficient implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 was made during the inter-regulatory authority meeting on Tuesday that the UGC hosted.

According to the RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) guidelines in the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accreditation criteria, weightage should be given to universities or other institutions that have facilities for people with disabilities. To prevent discrepancies, all regulators will examine the guidelines for faculty selection or promotion and harmonize them with UGC regulations, according to Kumar.

To nominate industry professionals to register on the UGC’s professor of practice portal, “the regulatory authorities will write to the industrial organizations associated with them,” he continued.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the Council of Architecture, the National Medical Council, the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, the Veterinary Council of India, the All India Council for Technical Education, the Pharmacy Council of India, and the Dental Council of India are among the regulatory bodies.

They also decided to use the cooperation of all regulators in the rapidly changing field of online education.

Kumar emphasized the need to integrate an Indian knowledge system module into all subject areas and the efficient use of technology in teaching and learning.
