IIT Guwahati has collaborated with EduRade, a drone pilot training school, to launch India’s largest Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO). The primary objective of this RPTO is to promote the advancement of drone technology in India.

At eighteen acres, and with nine medium-class drones that can fly at the same time, IIT Guwahati claims to be the biggest drone pilot training organization in India.

To improve the skills of young people in the Northeast and other parts of India, the RPTO will first offer a medium class drone pilot training course that is certified by the DGCA. Additionally, it will specifically serve women from self-help groups (SHGs) that are involved in agriculture and have been recognized by the Indian government’s Namo Drone Didi Yojna.

Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), which has been approved by the Indian government’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). They will be able to pursue a career as certified drone pilots and legally operate drones thanks to this certification.

Additionally, the IITG-RPTO plans to launch a diverse range of drone-based courses aimed at catering to various skill levels and interests, thereby ensuring comprehensive education and upskilling opportunities for individuals.

IIT Guwahati has devoted the last three years to fostering innovation and excellence in drone technology services and education, enabling businesses and individuals to become leaders and trailblazers in this rapidly developing field. The Institute intends to expand drone manufacturing, education, and entrepreneurship to every region of India in light of the rapidly expanding drone industry and the growing need for drone pilots. Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean PRBR at IIT Guwahati, stated, “With this partnership, we hope to develop a generation with the abilities and knowledge necessary to succeed in the field of drone technology, thereby advancing progress and innovation in this exciting area.
