UK’s University of Essex Launches New International Health Grant for Indian Students
The University of Essex today announced a new health bursary for the Indian Masters students to cover the cost of the UK’s immigration health surcharge for the duration of their postgraduate course.
Beginning on February 6, 2024, the surcharge for the international health bursary will now be £766 annually. This additional funding, which is available to Masters students beginning their courses in October 2024 or January 2025, comes in addition to the £3,000–£4,000 Academic Excellence Scholarship offered by the university to residents of India.
“We feel it is very important to make sure every student who can benefit from an Essex education can do so,” said Professor Anthony Forster, vice chancellor. We don’t want a higher immigration health surcharge to put off someone who is eager to attend Essex to pursue their studies. In order to make it very evident that the University of Essex is still a very welcoming place for Indian students and that we are doing everything in our power to support them, we are launching the international health bursary during my visit to India.
He went on, “To ensure Indian students get the most out of their studies in the UK, we have lots of other initiatives including preparation programmes, extracurricular opportunities, and extensive careers support in addition to this extra financial support.”
To help immigrants cover the cost of any necessary NHS care while they are in the UK, the immigration health surcharge was implemented in 2015.
The international health bursary is a cash award that is restricted to postgraduate students and pays the surcharge up to a maximum value of £766.66. After the student successfully completes the health bursary application form and meets the eligibility requirements, the bursary will be returned to them.
