Canada: Ontario Graduate Scholarship offers financial aid to graduate students

Graduate students in the Ontario region of Canada are eligible to apply for financial aid through the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS). The Province of Ontario and the University of Toronto both provide funds for this merit-based award.

Students are only eligible to receive the scholarship grant for a maximum of six years, and they are not allowed to hold another government-funded scholarship at the same time. Furthermore, you have to not have used up all of your government money for lifetime support.

Eligibility criteria for Ontario Graduate Scholarship:

  1. You should have a student study permit visa within the framework of a temporary resident visa.
  2. You must be enrolled in or have plans to enrol in a program in the years 2024-2025.

Benefit of Ontario Graduate Scholarship:

For a period of one year, a total of Rs 4,17,068 would be awarded for each academic session. Thus, depending on the program you are enrolled in, the total amount paid could reach up to Rs 12,51,204 if there are three academic sessions in a year.

Documents needed:

  1. 10+2 mark sheet
  2. Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions
  3. Previous awards/publications/conference/research experience
  4. Plan of study (Maximum 2 pages: 1 page for Plan of Study, 1 page for references/citations)
  5. Two academic references (referees will be required to submit online).

How to apply:

  1. Complete and submit the OGS application form by the deadline.
  2. Check the OGS application guidelines before applying.
  3. The graduate committee will review and evaluate your application after submission.
