GATE 2025 to be Conducted by IIT-Roorkee

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is the organising institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025. IIT Roorkee on July 1 launched the new GATE 2025 website —gate2025.iitr.ac.in.

IISc Bengaluru and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee) will administer the computer-based test (CBT) known as GATE 2025 on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI).

There will be thirty test papers overall, consisting of both complete and sectional papers, and the exam will last three hours. General aptitude (GA) and the candidate’s chosen disciplines will be the two portions. There will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and/or Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions in the disciplines the candidate has chosen.

Distribution of marks in all papers except papers AR, CY, DA, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST, XH and XL will be:

General Aptitude: 15 marks
Engineering Mathematics**: 13 marks
Subject Questions: 72 marks
Total: 100 marks
(**XE includes Engineering Mathematics section XE-A of 15 marks)

Distribution of Marks in papers AR, CY, DA, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST, XH and XL will be:

General Aptitude: 15 marks
Subject Questions: 85 marks
Total: 100 marks

For a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ, there will be negative marking. For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. For a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. There is no negative marking for wrong answer(s) to MSQ or NAT questions. There is no partial marking in MSQ.

The dates of GATE 2024 were February 3, 4, 10, and 11. On February 15, the response sheets and answer keys were made available, and on February 19, the question papers and result were made available. On March 16, the result was made public.

GATE is a national-level examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts/ Humanities.
