Banaras Hindu University (BHU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Competitiveness Mindset Institute – India to train students on ethical leadership.

According to BHU, the Finding Leader in You Scholar (FLY Scholar) program is a project that has positively impacted hundreds of university students.

Since the inception of the program at BHU one and a half years ago, more than 1300 students have obtained the FLY instruction. According to a BHU press release, the training “aims to foster a new generation of leaders who are not only skilled and knowledgeable but also deeply committed to ethical principles and social responsibility.” It is being delivered in partnership with Competitiveness Mindset Institute.

In order to increase effectiveness and performance in the classroom and at work, the institution will educate and develop the Big Five Competitiveness non-cognitive abilities to students as part of the understanding. In order to increase their employability, the institute hopes that this training will help students develop the fundamental abilities for moral leadership and make it easier for them to adopt a competitive mindset.

Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, students will also receive training to develop their communication abilities over the next three years.

Throughout the course of the day-long event, participants were assigned multiple tasks, such as recognizing different concerns and challenges they perceive as possible problems, characterizing the problems, and implementing solutions for the issues. One of the activities involved evaluating the situations in which actions were taken and those in which none were. Senior university staff members offered their perceptive opinions while they thought about the different problems they deal with every day.

For the academic year 2024–2025, BHU has already started the FLY training program across all faculties. With 120 participants, three cohorts are currently running at Mahila Mahavidyalaya, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the College of Nursing. 110 students from the Institute of Management Studies have already finished their training in batches. The University’s Coordinator for FLY programs, Prof. Lalita Vatta, announced that from August 4–7, three batches of about 120 students from the Institute of Agricultural Sciences will receive training.
