The university has permitted the hiring of guest faculty, which is limited in other colleges of the university, providing respite to the twelve Delhi government-funded DU colleges.

To better serve students, the DU administration announced that its prior directive will not apply to these institutions due to the “inordinate delay” in hiring teaching staff.

“The directives sent by the university for making appointment of guest faculties only against the leave vacancy i.e. maternity leave, child care leave, study leave, sabbatical leave, medical Leave and extraordinary leave shall not be made applicable to these colleges in the larger interest of students until further directives,” the Deputy Registrar (Colleges) ordered on August 13. “…Since there has been an inordinate delay in making the appointment of the teaching staff in twelve 100% funded Delhi government colleges due to one or more pretexts,”

A directive was previously sent out by Delhi University on August 8th, asking the heads of its colleges and departments to only appoint guest faculty in cases where a vacancy results from a member of the teaching staff being on leave.
