Banaras Hindu University Launches Student Counselling Initiative
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a new initiative to support students’ needs. The university has started a student counselling initiative to assist students in identifying their strengths, overcoming obstacles, and setting themselves on a path to success.
As part of the student well-being initiative, the programme features 15 counselors assigned across various faculties. The University has trained 15 Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Fellows with backgrounds in psychology as counselors. These fellows have all completed their formal education in psychology at the University, according to a statement issued by the university.
Their primary role will be to act as change agents, fostering positivity and engagement among students through counselling methods and creative approaches.
BHU’s project coincides with the nation’s execution of the National Education Policy 2020.
The program, which was first implemented as a pilot project two years ago at Mahila Mahavidyalaya, the university’s women’s college, has shown to be successful in assisting students in overcoming obstacles in life and achieving both academic and personal success. The BHU announcement stated that due to the initiative’s success, it has now been extended university-wide to assist students from all faculties.
