DU Allows Students to Pursue Two Degrees Simultaneously
The University of Delhi (DU) will allow students to pursue two-degree programmes simultaneously within the university. The first degree must be obtained normally from any DU college or department; the second degree must be pursued through the School of Open Learning’s open and distance learning (ODL) program.
Students who are currently enrolled in or in the process of enrolling in a degree program at the DU are permitted to pursue two degrees concurrently, as per the official DU notification. However, they are not permitted to pursue two academic programs that are similar to one another, like BCom (Hons) and BCom (Pass), even if one of them is taken in the ODL format.
The statement stated, “These guidelines will apply only to students pursuing academic programs other than PhD program.”
Individuals who opt to pursue two degrees concurrently must fulfill all prerequisites for each program independently, which include showing up to class, finishing assignments, doing internal evaluations, turning in projects, making presentations, and fulfilling advancement requirements for each degree.
Read the Delhi University announcement. Students must finish the required courses for the program they enrolled in initially, regardless of whether it is normal or ODL Mode, in order to avoid studying mandatory courses twice.
Additionally, candidates were notified in the notification that equivalent required courses in the second program will be substituted with suitable options. For example, upon enrolling in a regular program for the first time, a student must finish the required courses for that program. The required courses for an ODL program will take priority if you enroll in it first.
In undergraduate programs, students are required to finish prerequisite courses like Environmental Science (EVS) or Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) for the degree in which they initially enroll. These courses will be substituted with appropriate replacement courses if they are also necessary for the second-degree program.
A student pursuing two undergraduate degrees, for example, would take EVS and the AEC language as part of their regular program, but for their second ODL degree, they could take a Value Addition Course (VAC), a Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), or a different AEC language.
In a similar vein, students pursuing two BA programs may choose courses from the open generic elective (GE) pool to prevent duplication rather than retaking a generic elective (language) course.
During each degree sought, a separate research topic or project work will be needed during the fourth year of the UG program. Moreover, the students will not be permitted to get a major or minor in any area by combining credits from the two distinct programs.
