The Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE), a new program to recognize and assist exceptional PhD candidates who have great academic and research talents, was introduced by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) on October 16. According to the press release, the fellowship intends to promote high-quality research output and timely completion of PhD studies.

For current full-time PhD students at IIT Kanpur who plan to present their thesis within five years of starting the program, the application window is now open.

The fellowship term will be modified for students who turn in their thesis within the allotted five years and six months.

One approved or published research paper as the first author in a reputable journal or conference proceedings, directly resulting from their doctoral research, is one of the eligibility requirements. Starting with the Y18 class, students are eligible for the fellowship.

The fellowship provides up to a year of financial support, including supplementary grants connected to research and a stipend equal to that of the Institute for post-doctoral fellows. Although, as stated in the announcement, cooperation with other faculty members during the fellowship time will be permitted, the mentor will still be the current thesis supervisor.
