Somerville College announces the launch of the Dr Gita Piramal Scholarship, in collaboration with the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development (OICSD) and Piramal family. This full scholarship is set to provide opportunities for Indian students, supporting them to pursue their higher education at the University of Oxford. Candidates can check the eligibility criteria and application details at some.ox.ac.uk/the-oicsd/scholarships/dr-gita-piramal-scholarship.

One of India’s business historians, Dr. Gita Piramal, is being honored with this scholarship in recognition of her important contributions to academia and business leadership. As a Senior Associate Fellow and a longtime mentor to many, Dr. Piramal has been a part of Somerville College. According to a statement released in this respect, her groundbreaking work on corporate India, which includes books that are essential reading for MBA programs around the globe, has influenced the way that upcoming business executives think.

The Dr. Gita Piramal Scholarship, which provides complete tuition and a living stipend, is said to be designed to uplift the best Indian brains. This scholarship, which will be awarded for the first five years to students who are financially disadvantaged, would enhance India’s intellectual pool and support the nation’s long-term development.

“India is my family home, and Somerville has been my intellectual home for many years,” Dr. Piramal said in reference to the collaboration. With the help of this scholarship, brilliant young Indian minds will be able to take advantage of Oxford’s thriving academic community, advancing India’s future.

“It is a privilege to honor such a longstanding friend of the College in this way,” said Jan Royall, Principal of Somerville College, in reference to Dr. Piramal’s services. Dr. Piramal’s name will be linked to enabling exceptional Indian students to benefit from Oxford’s top-notch education and to meaningfully contribute back to India.

More than 60 Indian students have received support from the OICSD at Oxford since its founding in 2013, and many of them have gone back to India to address issues in technology, healthcare, and climate change. This goal is strengthened by the Dr. Gita Piramal Scholarship, which guarantees that Indian students from disadvantaged backgrounds can receive top-notch instruction and help with both domestic and international solutions.
