As part of ‘developing into a multi-disciplinary’ university, National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bengaluru, is all set to launch a three-year BA (Hons) programme from the upcoming academic year in 2025.

The curriculum is a component of other non-legal courses that NLSIU offers, such as the two-year interdisciplinary Master of Public Policy degree, which focuses on the intersection of the social sciences, law, and policy. The five-year BA LLB (Hons) degree, which combines legal and non-legal courses, is another innovative curriculum offered by the university. Among other subjects, the course curriculum covers economics, sociology, political science, and history.

Classes for the program’s initial cohort will start on July 1, 2025, and the new program offers the option of an extra fourth year. Applications for the new program are open to anybody who has earned a higher secondary qualification [10+2 or an equivalent test or program] from any recognized board or educational institution.

“NLSIU revolutionized Indian legal education by creating an integrated 5-year BA LLB (Hons.) degree. A number of NLS graduates have gone on to earn further degrees in business, social sciences, and the humanities before starting extremely prosperous careers in these domains. The NLS BA (Hons) program has developed naturally over the course of 35 years of offering the integrated 5-year BA LLB (Hons) program as NLSIU grows into a multidisciplinary university in accordance with state and federal education laws, the university said.

Faculty Teams began developing the NLS BA (Hons.) curriculum in August 2023. Earlier in 2024, it was approved by the regulating bodies. Prominent scholars and professionals participated in a recent comprehensive stakeholder engagement and provided input on the curriculum, the university continued.

All first-year students in the BA and BA LLB programs will be offered a common core set of foundational courses as part of the NLS BA program. Students will also have the opportunity to choose between majoring in history, sociology and anthropology, politics, and economics, learn a few Indian languages, and take practice courses in subjects like artificial intelligence and machine learning, filmmaking, business consulting, user experience research, digital journalism, creative writing, entrepreneurship, policy advocacy, and analysis.

For the academic year 2025–2026, the NLS BA (Hons) Program has a maximum enrollment of 60 students. On December 10, 2025, the “Registration of Interest” form for this program will be made available on the NLS BA (Hons) program page on the NLSIU website. In the meantime, the first week of January 2025 will see the program’s application forms posted on NLSIU’s website.

The total fee per annum for the programme costs Rs 4,32,500 including admission fee (one time) of Rs 13,000, tuition and facilities fee (per annum) of Rs 2,96,000 and off-campus housing fee (optional) of Rs 1,23,500 per annum.
