The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has established a specialised research center at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Hyderabad. This facility is aimed at undertaking research in critical areas including taxation, regional and rural economic development, foreign direct investment (FDI), economic growth, income and savings trends, foreign policy, government policies, GST, employment, and environmental sustainability, among others.

The union and state budgets, chartered accountant certification procedures, financial literacy and inclusion, the role of chartered accountants in policymaking, and the relationship between good governance and ease of doing business are just a few of the subjects that the research center will be thoroughly examining. The government will receive insights from these research projects, the ICAI stated in a statement.

ICAI has named Dr. Nupur Pavan Bang as the CoE Director-cum-Dean of its Center of Excellence in Hyderabad in order to further its research endeavors. According to an ICAI statement released in this context, Dr. Bang is a researcher and scholar who has a plethora of experience in data analytics, family business, and finance.

In addition to serving as the Academic Director of ISB’s Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family Enterprise, she has taught at esteemed universities like Ashoka University and IIM Ranchi. Additionally, Dr. Bang was named one of India’s Top 100 Women in Finance (2020). She has a PhD in finance and a post-doctoral degree from ISB.

With plans to open a third Center of Excellence in Kolkata in January 2025, ICAI now operates two Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in Hyderabad and Jaipur. Additionally, in the following three years, ICAI intends to open eight more CoEs nationwide to promote research, innovation, and talent development.
