In Ireland, the number of Indian students has increased dramatically in the last ten years. Counsel general Anita Kelly said on Friday that there has been a “substantial” increase in the number of Indian students studying in Ireland, as reported by TOI.

Kelly said that the number of Indian students has increased tenfold to reach 7,000 in 2022, from 800 in 2013. However, she noted, most universities have noticed a greater increase in student applications and acceptances this year, after the signing of an agreement on Friday between Shannon College of Hotel Management and NMIMS’ College of Hotel Management for a dual degree.

According to experts, the number of Indian students is gradually approaching 10,000, with the majority choosing postgraduate courses but with an increasing number applying for undergraduate education as well. This is according to Kevin Kelly, the Irish ambassador to India.

Experts added that since Canada has limited the amount of visas it grants to overseas students and Australia has significant visa backlogs, Indians have been considering flying to other anglophonic countries, with Ireland benefiting most from this trend.

Ireland’s increasing status as a top educational destination is reflected in the notable rise in the number of Indian students selecting the country. According to Akshay Chaturvedi, Founder and CEO of Leverage.biz, “Ireland’s strong educational infrastructure and innovative academic programs at institutions like Trinity College Dublin, University of Limerick, Dublin City University, University of Galway, and others, demonstrate its commitment to aligning education with real outcomes.”
