In 2024, more than 140 Indian students were granted Erasmus Mundus scholarships.
The two-year master’s program in Europe offered by Erasmus+ for the 2024 academic year has granted 146 Indian students with Erasmus Mundus scholarships. India has emerged as one of the scholarship’s top beneficiaries as a result.
Out of the total number of 146 students, 75 belong to the female category and 71 to the male category. This year, scholarships for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s degree, which offers a study program jointly delivered by an international consortium of higher education institutions, have been given to 2603 students from 137 countries worldwide.
The recipients of this scholarship will be able to study and research at two or more universities in Europe, with the goal of earning a joint or double degree in a variety of fields, including data science, engineering, sustainability, quantum, and various STEM and social science disciplines. The completely financed scholarship takes care of the recipient’s living expenses, travel expenses, and tuition.
The winners of this year’s Erasmus Mundus scholarships come from some of India’s top universities and will attend a variety of esteemed European colleges. France (31), Portugal (19), Belgium (17), Italy (15), Spain (14), Germany (9), Finland (8), Czech Republic (5), Sweden (4), Latvia (3), The Netherlands (2), Poland (2), Austria (2), Greece (1), and Hungary (1) are the EU member states where students will begin their studies. Additionally, a few of them will begin their first leg in Serbia (1), Israel (2), Turkey (2), and the United Kingdom (8)—all of which are Erasmus+ member nations.
“Over 80,000 Indian students are studying in Europe, reflecting a growing appreciation for the continent’s diverse academic offerings, rich cultural heritage, and unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional growth,” said HE Hervé Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India, in congratulating the winners. Despite its competitive nature, India has been the top beneficiary of Erasmus+ scholarships since the program’s founding, which speaks volumes about the quality of Indian students. For them, this is the beginning of an enlightening and life-changing journey. They will become ambassadors of the EU-India partnership as they prepare to study and experience something different in an EU nation. I hope they have great success.
