NIT-Patna: A look at last 5 years NIRF Rankings
In its latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna has secured a position under the top 30 with a rank of 27 under the architecture category, while in the 2023 NIRF, it was ranked at the 19th spot.
This time, NIT Patna’s ranking under the engineering category has increased somewhat, going from 56 in 2023 to 55 this year. The institute is now ranked 56 in NIRF 2023 after rising 134 spots in the NIRF Engineering category.
For the previous five years running, NIT Patna’s Engineering rating has been steadily rising. The institute was ranked 134th in 2019 and moved up to rank 92 in 2022 to enter the top 100. It then moved up to ranks 72 in 2021, 63 in 2022, 56 in 2023, and 55 in 2024.

The institution received scores of 59.63 in teaching, learning, and resources (TLR), 59.59 in research and professional practice (RPC), 45.84 in graduation outcomes (GO), 63.81 in outreach and inclusivity (OI), and 34.67 in perception, all out of 100, to secure the 19th rank in the NIRF 2023 architecture category.
In contrast, in 2024 the perception is 10.42, the GO is 74.16, the RPC is 43.86, the TLR is 60.91 out of 100, and the OI is 49.80. Nevertheless, NIT Patna, which is regarded as the sixth-oldest engineering college in the nation, was unable to secure a position in the 2024 Times Higher Education ranking or the 2025 QS World University ranking.
Formerly known as Bihar College of Engineering Patna since 1924, NIT Patna offers undergraduate programmes in BTech and BArch. Furthermore, at the postgraduate level, the programmes available are in MTech, MURP, DD, and MCA.
