University of Essex has announced its innovative Integrated Masters in Science (MSci) in Nursing, offering a Dual Award in Adult and Mental Health Nursing.

The four-year, full-time Integrated Masters in Science (MSci) in Nursing program is intended to give students the abilities and information necessary to succeed in two important areas of nursing, transforming them into adaptable professionals with the ability to provide both mental and physical healthcare.

The program’s design balances 50% theoretical study and 50% clinical practice, giving students the opportunity to understand the fundamentals of nursing while gaining practical experience in a range of healthcare settings. In the first three years, students will specialize in either adult or mental health nursing, with the option to move into the dual award track at the conclusion of their third year, contingent on their academic standing. Students can get two degrees by concentrating on the alternate field in their last year of study.

Placements will be offered across Essex, giving students exposure to a wide range of healthcare environments, including NHS, private, and voluntary settings.

A minimum of BBC-CCD (112-88 UCAS tariff points) in A-Level, or comparable credentials, is required for admission to the program. Candidates must receive an overall IELTS score of 7.0, with a minimum writing score of 6.5 and a maximum score of 7.0 in the remaining sections. The NHS Learning Support Fund is another resource available to qualified students. It offers a £5,000 grant per academic year to help fund their education, with the possibility of further funding for those who have dependents.

The official website for the programme is: essex.ac.uk/courses/UG01535/1/Integrated-Master-in-Science-Nursing-Dual-Award-in-Adult-and-Mental-Health

According to the Guardian University Guide 2025, the university is now ranked 11th in the UK for mental health nursing, 28th in the UK for general nursing, and 23rd in the UK for nursing and midwifery (The Mail University Guide, 2025). In the National Student Survey 2024, Essex ranks 14th for adult nursing and 4th for mental health nursing in terms of overall positivity scores (English broad-discipline higher education institutions).
