Maharashtra to set up country’s first AI university
Maharashtra is set to establish the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) university in the country and a task force has been formed for the planning and implementation of the project, state Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar has said.
Shelar stated on Saturday night that the institution will be a center of excellence that fosters cooperation between the government, academia, and industry while advancing research and development in AI and related subjects. The task force consists of professionals from government, business, and academia.
It will endeavor to establish an organization devoted to AI research, teaching, and innovation. Shelar stated that the BJP’s election agenda, which emphasized the use of technology for development, is in line with this plan.
“The university will support AI and related research and development.” Additionally, it will emphasize policy formation, technical innovation, and skill development. Making Maharashtra a hub for AI innovation and education is the goal, he stated.
Who are the members of task force?
The principal secretary of the information technology department will serve as the task force’s chair. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, representatives from companies like Google India, Mahindra Group, and L&T, as well as directors of IIT Mumbai and IIM Mumbai, are among them.
The AI university will serve as a hub for excellence, encouraging cooperation between government, academia, and business. In addition to establishing Maharashtra as a world leader in AI, this project would further India’s technological development, Shelar stated.
The task team has convened twice and is now working to finalize the university’s establishment roadmap. According to the minister, the government’s choice demonstrates its commitment to establishing Maharashtra as a center for innovation and technology.
