On the occasion of Hindi Journalism Day, the Delhi University‘s Standing Committee on Academic Matters approved the introduction of a master’s programme in journalism in Hindi medium, which is set to commence in the 2025-26 academic session, according to the panel members.

Hindi Journalism Day is observed on May 30 every year to commemorate the founding of India’s first Hindi-language newspaper, “Udant Martand,” in 1826 and to draw attention to the vital role that journalism plays as the fourth pillar of democracy.

The Department of Hindi, which is a part of the Faculty of Arts, will provide the recently approved postgraduate course. It is made in accordance with the Postgraduate Curriculum Framework of the university.

However, for the course to be implemented, it must receive a final nod from the Academic Council.

In addition to confirming the start of the Hindi-medium course, the committee members disclosed that an English-medium equivalent, to be given under the Department of English, is anticipated to begin in the upcoming academic year, 2026–2027.

In order to review and approve the curricula for a number of undergraduate and graduate courses, the committee met on Friday. These comprised the seventh and eighth semesters of a number of Bachelor of Arts programs, including geography, Hindustani music (both program and honors), and education, all of which were organized according to the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF).

During the session, postgraduate curricula in philosophy, economics, geography, sociology, political science, and mathematics were also examined and modified to align with the new curriculum framework.

In spite of some disagreements, the committee met on May 2, 6, and 8 to discuss changes to the syllabus, many of which were eventually accepted by the executive and academic councils.
